Saipan

Saipan is the main island in the Northern Mariana island chain of approximately 7 or more islands. Saipan, Tinian and Rota, the principal inhabited islands, became famous during World War II where major battles were fought. Most notably, the Enola Gay took off from Tinian to bomb Nagasaki and Hiroshima. There remains many war relics buried in the jungles and at the bottom of seas around the islands. Today, Saipan, Tinian and Rota are mainly tourist islands to residents of Japan and Korea.

The resident population on Saipan is approximately 70,000. Chamorros and Carolinians are the two primary native populations on island as well as being official languages in the CNMI. English is the most widely spoken and is the primary official language. The overall population of the islands consists of many different cultures. In addition to the native islanders, there are also enclaves of Filipinos, Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Thais, Bangladeshis, Americans, Nepalese, Indonesians, Australians, and Europeans
